Looking Back
I remember people telling me that once I had kids, I wouldn't believe how fast time passed. And I think, if I'm honest, that I was always a little skeptical of that statement. Until we had Kate. Now, I get it. Time flies! It amazes me how a whole day just manages to blow by me, and the next thing I know, it's been a week, then a month...what I'm trying to do here is make excuses for the state of the blog...it hasn't been updated since February!! I started working on updates in early August (six months after the last update), and then #2 arrived and those got pushed to the bottom of the to-do list. So now, almost three months after I started my six-months-late updates, I'm going to try to finish them. Needless to say, there will probably be a lot less narrative and just a lost of pictures with captions, but I think that's mostly what everyone wants to see anyway. So, here we go...

A Few Little Gems
Sometimes we capture little moments using the iPad and we forget to transfer them over to the computer or send them out. Here are a couple photos and videos we captured thanks to Apple.

Remember how I mentioned earlier that Kate is starting to communicate better? She now pretty consistently says "mama", "dada", "pup", "more", "ball", and "poop" (while I'm not overly thrilled that poop was one of her first words, it sure does come in handy). She's also started signing better, and will sign for "more", "milk", "all done", "eat", and "thank you". Of course, she's still most fluent in the language of grunts and pointing, but the other stuff is coming along. She's also busy learning her animals and body parts. Although she hasn't mastered some of the more traditional animal noises yet, like the dog, she surely knows what a monkey and a fish say. When we sing Old MacDonald, we just imagine that he had more of an exotic animal sanctuary than a farm...

2014 Has Arrived!
We closed out 2013 with a trip to the doctor to check and see how our newest little stowaway is doing. And thankfully, he or she is doing just fine! The doctor gave us an order for an ultrasound to verify the due date, and we were spot on. The little one should be here on August 4th, which means, if he or she is anything like Kate, that it will probably be closer to the 9th or 10th of August. We followed our big appointment up with a quiet night at home to ring in the new year--in fact, I think we were in bed by 10:30! But even though we didn't see the ball drop, we're excited for all of that 2014 has in store for us.
Like so many of the past few months, January passed by in a blur. The winter has been pretty rough here (and everywhere else too!). We've had more snow than any other winter we've spent here, and it's resulted in a full day off from work and six or seven late starts. It's been bitterly cold and we've been confined to the house. Even poor Copper doesn't want to venture outside. Luckily, we've got plenty to keep us busy indoors, and we've even had some visitors. Now that he's retired, Grandpa Bob has lots of extra time (that's kind of a joke--he's remodeling his house!) so he drove out to see us. We did a lot of hanging out, but also ate some really good food! We hope he'll be back to see us again soon. Brandon started up with grad school classes again so he is often in the office, working on homework. I finished my program in December, and am eagerly awaiting my piece of paper from Webster to make it official. Kate is communicating more and more. She's learning more words and has started using more baby sign language. She gets so frustrated when you don't understand what she's trying to say or tell you (it's still mostly grunting and pointing) and it will probably be a blessing once she starts really talking. I'm working on uploading a video of our little "chatty Cathy", but so far, no luck.

Christmas Time Is Here!
After attending a few different Christmas parties and watching all the TV Christmas specials we could, we were finally ready to pack up the car and head to Iowa. We stayed at Aunt Lisa and Uncle Bouck's house with the Notz family, which gave us lots of time to relax and play. We celebrated Christmas lots of different times...first with Papa Ronnie, Vickie, Grandma Gwen and Duke and Lynn, then with Grandma Brenda and Papa John, then again with the Rubel family, and finally, with Santa gifts. Needless to say, it was a busy trip! And Miss Kate made out like a bandit!
